Brightwell Road Speed Limit Reduction - January 2024

Proposed 40mph speed limit on Brightwell Road (where it passes Bucklesham Primary School)

For many years, the Parish Council have been lobbying Suffolk County Council's Highways Department with a request to reduce the speed limit on the C375 Brightwell Road, where it passes the primary school, to 30mph.

Suffolk Highways have finally agreed to consider our request, and are in the process of compiling a report to put to the Committee at Suffolk County Council who make these decisions. Unfortunately, following a discussion with County Councillor Patti Mulcahy, the Highways engineers have decided that a 40mph speed limit has a better chance of being approved. Apparently other roads in the area have been changed to 40mph, and as the road travels through mainly open countryside, a 30mph speed limit was unlikely to meet sufficient criteria to be approved.

We have been asked to provide supporting comments to be included in the report. If you have a supporting comment you wish to make to add weight to our argument to reduce the speed on the Brightwell road as it passes the school, please contact the Parish Council Clerk on any of the ways below.

We have until 19th January to submit our comments. This will be included on the agenda for the next Parish Council meeting on 10th January 2024.
